Introduce yourself in this thread and let everyone know a bit about yourself.

I will go first:

Hello I am thephantom and I am the primary developer, pixel artist and web developer for Phanxgames. I have founded this Indie Game Studio with Laguna over 8 years ago. And together we are working on AetherStory, our retro co-op RPG adventure!

I personally enjoy open world games and I am currently enjoying Fallout 76. But I also love Final Fantasy and Zelda series.

My other hobby that is away from the computer is painting with physical paints on canvas (I am still learning).

Be sure to stop by the live dev stream on twitch, I am sure you will catch me there sometime. But for now feel free to reply below and introduce yourself.

Hello from me as well. A long-time RPG player and a newbie RPG game developer. And I use that term very loosely as I've definitely not deserved it yet. haha

Hey guys!

My name is Eric. I have recently come to love pixel art games. I play other games such as Runescape for 15 years, League of Legends for 10 years and recently just started Phantasy Star Online 2. I love MMORPG games and I've been looking for a runescape style pixel art mmorpg and although this isn't exactly what I had in mind it is a great game so far and I can't wait for further updates. I have dabbled in game development before and even went to DeVry for game development for a semester which was mostly a waste of money haha. I am thinking of jumping into game development again.

A little about me: I'm 28, live in the U.S and am a disabled army veteran who just sits at home and games now Getting fat. Help.

What are the aspects of Runescape that you hoping to recapture in a pixel art mmorpg? I havent played it myself for more than an hour or two, so I am not familiar with all its mechanics. I may be able to squeeze in some of your hopes into Aether Story!

I love having lots of skills to train, I love training combat stats mostly. but having a variety is good to keep everyone busy, add lots of content, and tie the game together. Look into runescapes Slayer skill. It's my favorite and i bet you'll like it!

Hiya! I'm Amy, and when it comes to hobbies that pertain to this project, I've always had a huge soft spot for RPGs with customizable characters - which most MMOs tend to have. If I'm going to spend hundreds of hours on an RPG, it certainly helps to be able to make my character look the way I want. This is why Dragon Quest 9 is one of my all time favorite RPGs. It's got fully custom characters, it's got tons of different armor that you can use to play dressup with your party if you want, it's got an extensive end game with tons to do, from levelling up every boss to 99 to maxing out every job.

I came here after talking a user in the long dead MMO NEStalgia and they mentioned how this game looked like it had potential, so I decided to check it out. NEStalgia has a similar premise, being an MMO entirely using pixel art, though it plays very similarly to old NE RPGs like Dragon Warrior 3 and Final Fantasy 1.

If I had to pick one aspect of NEStalgia I hope to see this game incorporate, its rare cosmetics dropping from mobs. Personally, I'm the kind of player who's much more likely to spend weeks grinding for, say, a cute dress or hat, than I am to grind for a shiny new sword. I remember when I downloaded Dragon Quest of the Stars, the first thing I did was spend 30 hours in the casino grinding for some cute winter clothing, lol. NEStalgia had armor dyes that could drop from mobs, as well as some rarer character morphs that would give you, say, bunny ears or something. Admittedly, it was a pretty limiting customization system, but it was still pretty exciting when a mob dropped a dye.

I feel like having a rare pair of shoes, or a hat that only exists in limited quantity gives you a lot more prestige in an MMO among the playerbase than landing, say, a 1/50k drop for a rare sword. That's also half the fun of customizing your character in an MMO - seeing what other players wear and being jealous of a particular clothing item, then spending 30+ hours grinding for your own.

As for hobbies that don't have any relation to Aether Story, I love collecting Tamagotchis! I've always had a soft spot for these cute pet raising sims, and it certainly doesn't help that Tamagotchi has some of the best character designs ever. I especially love Pizzarinatchi.
