My suggestion idea: Weapon enchancements
Reasoning behind it: It cant be too complex in beginning. First basic enchacements will be possible at level 10 weapons and they will be very easy. Complexity will rise with higher level.. And other new things and complex enchancements will be available at higher levels as player will progress in gear and level. Everything below will also apply for armor and other things:
So my idea is this:
Level 0-9 weapons = no possible enchancements, player will just play what he got.
Level 10-19 weapons = you could add 1 enchancement stone to your weapon, STR, DEX, INT (just basic points)
Level 20-29 weapons = you could add 1 advanced enchancement stone to your weapon.
Advanced enchantement requires 6x normal enchacement of same ability
from STR, DEX, INT etc.. and that advanc. enchant. can be make in NPC
after you get enough resources for it. It will add to weapon 2 STR, DEX..
Level 30-39 weapons = you could add 1 master enchancement stone to your weapon.
Master enchancement requires 4x advanced enchancement of same type.
It adds 3 STR, DEX, INT etc. with some weaker special ability.
Level 40 weapons = you can add to weapon 1-2x master enchancement stone. Depends on quality.
Also weapons from level 40+ can have new upgrades.
Upgrades will be possible from +1 to +9
Every upgrade can be made in any of basic stats, STR, DEX, INT etc.
For upgrade person needs master enchancement stones.
From normal to +1 = 1 stone.
From +1 to +2 = 2 stones, from +2 to +3 = 3 stones etc.
It means that +9 will require in total 45 master enchancement stones
with is 180 advanced enchacement stones or 1080 basic enchacement stones.
Upgrade will grant +1 stat of certain type of enchancement player used.
Example sword +9 can add +9 to streng.
If that sword have 2x empty socket, that means u can also add +6 STR
with socketing. Totally it can have +15 STR, but very expensive to do it.
Low level areas will drop only basic enchancement stones and higher level areas will drop advanced enchacement stones with are 6x better then normal ones. Master enchancement stones will be able to drop only rarely from dungeon Boss or something like that. Special quests..
Level 50 weapons = these weapons have 3x empty socket for master enchancement.
It means that weapon can have for example bonus +18 STR, DEX etc.
9 from sockets and 9 from upgrading. But very expensive
Level 60 weapons and higher = these weapons have 3x empty sockets as level 50.
But they will be harder to upgrade to +9.
Every upgrade will cost double of normal weapon upgrades.
That means. That +9 will cost 90 master enchancem. stones.
Also idea about stones: Players will be able to find enchancement stones not just by killing mobs.
There will be skill called archeology. People at low levels will find bones, items, gold etc. And in
higher levels they will be able to find enchancement or advanced enchancement stones. This will
help players to get more of these for upgrades. Archaelogy will be very helpfull skill for gaining resources.
Idea at the End. There will be Aether Stone. The most rare stone in game that can be exchanged
in few NPCs for 3x master enchancement stone of your choose or used to your weapon to instantly grand you +1 raise in your weapon rank. They will be used for +4 weapons etc. This stone will drop only from the hardest Bosses in game.
